I'm so excited!  I ordered some workout DVDs online last week, and I can't wait for them to get here and kick this booty into shape.  For all of you haters, there are a ton of awesome workout videos that are ser-i-ous.  I'm just going to say it, Jillian Michaels is a beast!

After a tough workout in the morning, or whenever really, a nice refreshing smoothie is just what the doctor ordered.  There was this incredible smoothie joint back in Kansas that I've been going to since high school.  They had delicious smoothies with plenty of options for a healthy drink.  I was so sad to see it was gone when I went back over Christmas break.

I still can't believe that this super foodie area I now live in doesn't have a smoothie shop.... they have a sausage wagon... but no smoothies? Weird, but I don't think Durham would ever claim to be normal.

So I had to buck-up and learn how to make delicious smoothies on my own, and I must say that I'm quite pleased with my results.  You can pretty much adapt this recipe to whatever fruit you want, just keep the proportions the same.

Hurry up and get here DVDs, I've got smoothies to make....

Tropical Blackberry Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup frozen blackberries
  • About 1 1/2 cup So Delicious coconut milk
  • 1/2 or whole banana
  • 1 packet Truvia (agave nectar or honey would be good, too)
  • Scoop of soy protein powder
  • optional: a tablespoon of flaxseeds
Throw the mango and blackberries into the blender.  I pour enough coconut milk to reach to the 2 cup mark in blender with the fruit already in it.  Add the rest of the ingredients and blend well.  If the smoothie seems a bit thick, you can always add a little more coconut milk or water.  Enjoy!
Sincerely,
Jill
